SJC Postpones Resumption of Jury Trials

In an effort to balance the right to trial by jury with the critical need for public safety, the Supreme Judicial Court (SJC) has announced plans to postpone the Phase 1 resumption of jury trials in the Commonwealth. Jury trials were originally scheduled to resume after the Thanksgiving break, during the week of November 30. 2020. The plan is now to postpone the start date to the week of January 11, 2021. 

The courts in which jury trials will be held will be limited, with a maximum of six jurors. See our previous post for the locations that have been identified as suitable to COVID-19 precautions needed for jury trials.
